As a previous teacher I've been anxiously awaiting the days when Olivia would begin to really say some words, then sentences, followed by songs and reading books. I'm excited and impatient...
And still waiting.
After speaking with the pediatrician at 18 months, she said we would reevaluate Olivia's verbal skills at 2 years. Looking at any spectrum of language development, Olivia is on the chart...just at the low end. She is attempting some words and has a couple of words under her belt. However, I got impatient and called the dr asking for a referral to get Olivia evaluated by a speech therapist. Working in a school setting...it's soooo evident how very important early intervention is, and I don't want to be the Mommy that ignores a problem and could have had it addressed much earlier.
Therefore this past week I spent multiple days on the phone with various doctors and insurance... and Olivia learned three new words!!!
hi, bye-bye, and up (although 'up' sounds more like 'bra')
So plans to get her evaluated are on hold right now. I know that all kids develop on their own sweet schedule and that Olivia's time will come....it's just this mommy that's having the problem.
Maybe I should see a dr???
Or just spend my weeks on the phone with doctors discussing her strengths/weaknesses :)
oh...she has the sweetest of all voices...
in love
