Beautiful Days

I love Spring...especially here in Houston. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous and I've used the "I need some vitamin d" excuse TOO much this past week.

Today we had our "networking" lunch. Tim called in the middle of it and later actually apologized for interrupting my appointment (how courteous -- lol).

Wish this could last forever. These are the good days!!!

kick-kick-PUNCH

or is it punch-punch-KICK?
either way...I love it!!
Mason is movin...jumpin...bumpin...

Happy 19 Weeks to us :)
Mason is the size of a mango. A mango is a pretty good size fruit...that's a good thing! Almost halfway there. Only one hot summer until we get to meet this little man :)

Video Monitor Update

still love it...really love it...
and highly recommend it...

HOWEVER, we've learned a little something about our darling "great sleeper" Olivia. We thought she took two 2+ hour naps a day. But we've come to find out, that she takes anywhere from 15-90 minutes to settle down and actually fall asleep. She never cries or makes any sounds, because our "sound only monitor" never goes off. Therefore, instead of sleeping 2 hours, it's more like resting for 15-90 minutes and sleeping for an hour. The interesting part is we would have never even know this sleeping pattern of hers, if we had not got the video monitor.

It's not because of the mobile...since that's been removed...we've noticed the same pattern. Grandma and several other people have mentioned that it's good...she is just enjoying some quiet time and we had quiet time as kids. I guess I just feel guilty that she spend so much awake time in her crib. The other day, I was finally going to go in and get her after 90 minutes. I finished unloading the dishwasher and I looked at the video monitor and she was sound asleep. She slept for 90 minutes. That's 3 hours in her crib!!!

Aunt Erin and I noticed how she silkies with her toes. We both "understand" this and discussed how maybe "silking" is keeping her awake (it does for us sometimes).

She has no toys in her crib...just two silky blankets....which when she's really sleepy and ready to crash...
she'll throw silky over her head.

But when she does fall asleep, we think she's pretty adorable.
And when she's finally in her deep sleep... she gets comfy!

She likes to have her hands above her head.

But eventually by the morning, silky is back over her head...

And when she wakes up...with silky on her head...it can be confusing & very dark.

A Conversation between Cousins

This morning Aunt Erin sent me a picture text message...it was Logan. He was saying hi to Olivia and wanted to know what she was doing.

"goin for a ride what are you doing?"

"vacuuming...the playroom"

"sweet when you're done with your chores i'll come pick you up in my sweet ride"

"great...and then we can go golfing together. do you golf...because i just like to caddy (aka push the bag around)"
"golf is borrring...i prefer the ghetto life"

"eh..i'm over golf anyways...how about a walk?
i've got princess pjs on"

"a walk sounds beary nice :)"
"phew...but now i'm exhausted...gonna nap it out for a few"

Victory!

Today we decided to head out to IKEA to pick up Olivia's big-girl bed frame. After a nice drive downtown we managed to track down the bed in the maze that is the store and let Olivia give the bed a test run.

She was a total ham, clearly approving of the bed and making sure every unsuspecting IKEA customer that walked by her knew it!

The next, and previously insurmountable, challenge was transporting our newly acquired Swedish goods to our house

But not anymore. Thank you 4Runner.

Victory!!!

Back to Life...

...Back to Reality.

Now that Jerry has "crossed the line" and come back from the dead...he's back to real life. And Mommy and Daddy are about to get VERY serious.

And he's a great dog...but recently has developed some "not-so-attractive" habits.

Habit one we must break immediately - howling. It's horrible. If there is crying or a howling type noise in the house...Jerry starts howling. At first it was funny but now we realize this needs to stop. Immediately. Our time came this morning when he began to howl because Olivia was having a fit...and Jerry knew immediately that he was in trouble. He went into our bedroom to sulk.

Habit two - charging the door when someone is knocking. We don't mind the barking...because it lets people know we have a big dog. But the "big dog" threat is slightly diminished when they see Jerry wagging his tail and running in circles and bringing Bear to the door wanting to play a game with you. So, we are going to work on Jerry being on his red rug by the back door when someone comes into our home.

Habit three - NO BEGGING. He is pretty good with this...but we just need to make sure that any people food he receives is in his bowl in the laundry room.

Habit four - remembering all our commands...especially "come" and "down". These just get better with some good practice. He does great when there are treats involved, we would just like it be more consistent and without treats.

Overall, this post makes it seem like Jerry is the most unruly dog there is...which is actually pretty far from the truth. But, with a newborn coming we want to work out some of the "issues" we've been experiencing before August.

Did you know...

...a toddler can have a meltdown every 20 minutes???

Olivia has definitely started showing us "her opinion" about things that she wants to do or likes to do.

Could it be the terrible 15 months?
Can colic reoccur in toddler years?
Is separation anxiety the cause??
Teething????
Or is this just a normal toddler doing her thing???

I don't know the answers to any of these...but I do know that we've heard a lot of crying the past couple of weeks. The following-you-around-the-house-crying, the-second-I-put-you-down crying, the-screaming-child-in-the-grocery-store, the-shrieks-because-you-are-not-allowed-to-walk-in-the-middle-of-the-road, the-fits-because-you-can't-climb-in-the-oven or dishwasher, and the-crying-for-what-appears-no-good-reason.

Oh my.

All Good Things...

...sometimes come to an end...

...and that includes our days with mobile. Olivia pulled one of the stuffed animals (Koala Bear) down and threw him on the floor. I warned her that she can't do it...or she'll lose the whole mobile. The next nap I see her (love the video monitor) stand up and pull down Koala Bear.

In goes "Mean Mom" to remove the mobile. And then screaming...I mean absolutely the highest pitch shriek comes from the room...

She eventually got over it and will have to learn to live without the comforts of mobile. I'm slightly sad for her, as I know how much she loves it. But safety first, right?

ALSO...want to wish Miss Layla a very happy birthday.
~Welcome to the World Sweet Child~
And congrats to Joyful, Paul and Big Sister Claire!!

Goose Egg

One minute, she's lookin' like this....

And the next, she's got a purple goose egg on the right side of her forehead.

YOWZERS!
The line in the middle of the bruise...is actually the imprint of the space that separates each slat of the hardwood floors.

Poor baby. She was just walking around the house and must have got her feet tangled in themselves.

3.22.2010

Spring Flowers

Today Olivia and I planted some flowers for our front porch.

Pretty White Snow Princess Plants. It says they are "heat tolerant"...that's good, we live in H-Town.

Olivia didn't know exactly what to think of them.

Jerry was curious too.

And it was exhausting digging the holes and planting the flowers. We had to take a break and stretch our backs.

But they are really pretty. Say "cheese".

No really Olivia, do a pretty smile please.

Tooth #3

Top left broke through her sweet gums last week.

Welcome to the Family

....4Runner!

....FINALLY!

We've been waiting a long time for you. Ever since Olivia arrived and especially now with Mason on the way, we realized the two 4 cylinder sedans weren't going to make it. We needed more power and space. While you are much bigger than the other cars we've owned, you're still relatively small by Texas Standards.

No more borrowing cars to pick up something bigger than a suitcase. No more Olivia kicking the back of the drivers seat. Jerry finally has his own proper spot in the "way" back. There are three rows of seats...although the last row is definitely small, made for kids or people no bigger than Andrea (not preggars).

You will be loved and taken care of sooooo well. Daddy Tim loves cars and he cares for them and keeps records of every maintenance done. You are one lucky car.

Grey Saturday

It's a grey and rainy Saturday morning...so how about a bright, sunny, cute picture of the lovely Miss Olivia?

SOLD!

Ahhh Camry, we had a good run, 105,000k miles over almost 9 years! You took me from the Tidewater to Virginia Tech well over 50 times, you plied the roads along the east coast all the way from Alpharetta, GA to Newport, RI and most places in between.

You even survived the ill-fated VA-TX journey with only a cracked windshield, fairing much better than your newer and fancier sibling, the Acura, who sustained a slashed tire! All in all you only required $12 of non-scheduled maintenance (failed AC relay, which is actually one of the worst possible things to break in Houston in the summer; luckily it took 5 min to fix!) the whole time I owned you. You even still have your original battery!

Thanks for all the good times Camry, your new owner Luis seemed nice and I am sure he will take good care of you. I gave him all your maintenance records so he knows your outstanding track record! I also bet that you will teach one of Luis kids how to drive a manual transmission in about 5 years, just like you did Andrea!

Thank you so much for your trusty service, you were a great car and we'll miss you!

Guess Who Can...

...roll their tongue?

3.17.2010

15 Month Well-Check

And she's doing just great!!!

Here are her latest stats:
weight: 22 pounds 4.6 ounces 25-50%
height: 30.75 inches 50-75%
head circumference 19 inches 95%

I had a couple of concerns. 1st was the amount of food Olivia eats. As I explained to the doctor, she never says she is full. She keeps eating and eating and eating until we remove her from the food. When we remove her from the food...she's fine and playing and not acting hungry... Dr. just recommended that we continue to offer her a wide variety of food and to not just keep letting her have starches (which are her favorite).

2nd concern was language development. Olivia only has about 3-4 words that she uses. It might just be the "teacher" in me that is craving more verbal communication...but Dr assured me that she has no concerns about Olivia at all. She (the dr) pointed out all the great social interactions that Olivia is demonstrating. So, for now...we just continue to wait it out.

3.16.2010

Dirty

So I'm feel like I learn more about Olivia every single day. I learn something about her personality or the way she thinks...etc.

Yesterday, I learned....that when she's EXTREMELY tired, her legs do not work as well...at least at this early stage in her walking life.

We got home around 3pm yesterday and O had not slept at all. We put her in the crib and let her lay there for about an hour before we realized she wasn't napping. Plus some of the neighbors were meeting up at the park. Got her up...changed her from the fleece pants and long sleeve onesie (appropriate for CT weather) and put her into a skort and polo. Off to the park we go.

And as we are walking there...she totally trips and falls and gets wound #1 ... right skinned knee. However, she doesn't cry....she gets back up and continues walking.

Later she tries to make the transition from the sidewalk to the mulch at the park and falls face first into the mulch. Wound #2 ... dirt in face, mouth, body and slightly skinned forehead...but hardly ANY tears at all!!

(thank you miss jude for the camera photo of this moment!)
And when we got home...we looked like this (after a snack and lots of playing)...

3.15.2010

Cousins

Olivia and Logan are each other's first born cousin...and I know there will be lots of fun play dates in the future.

They are wearing coordinating shirts. Olivia's says "big cousin" with her name and Logan's "little cousin" and his name.

And a quick...kind-of squished...last photo of us.

Kevin, Erin, Logan and Dylan - thank you for hosting us. We had such a great time and were very sad to leave. We look forward to our next visit and hope one day...we our visits won't have to be such a long distance travel.

A New Home

Erin and Kevin have been anxiously awaiting their first home of their own for a VERY long time. And at the end of this month...they'll have it!!!

We are sooo excited for them and can't wait to see it all filled with their stuff and loving touches.

We've already claimed "our room"...(other people can use it when we're not there). I'm sure it will also be known as the "guest room" (I think "Andrea's room" also works).

Here is the Hawk Family together in their new home ... this will be Logan's room.

And a group family picture in the kitchen...always the gathering spot in all homes.

Afterwards we traveled to Mohegan Sun (casino/shops/restaurants/where Erin used to work). We walked around some, snapped some cute photos, and ate lunch.
(yikes...as you can see I had a hard time picking my favorites...so I put them all in)
